This lesson introduces students to absolute value functions, one of the most important building blocks in Algebra. Students will first review the meaning of absolute value as distance from zero and then explore the parent function f(x)=∣x∣. Through clear explanations and examples, they will see how the absolute value function can be written as a piecewise function and why its graph forms a distinct V-shape. By the end, students will recognize patterns in absolute value equations, learn to determine the vertex directly, and build a strong foundation for graphing transformations in future topics like quadratics.
